Privacy policy

Prakriya is a private service run from Bengaluru, India. It is not a government website. This page explains what we collect when you use it, why, who can see it, and how to have it deleted.

What we collect and why

  • Reading guides and using tools: nothing that identifies you. Our server sees your network (IP) address; to limit spam on votes and messages we store only a one-way scrambled version of it, never the address itself.
  • "Did this work?" votes: your answer, the guide, and a random ID kept in your browser, which is scrambled before we store it. Your browser also remembers your answer so the page shows it next time.
  • Feedback ("what was different"): the reason you pick, what you write, and a WhatsApp number or email only if you choose to give one.
  • Contact form: your name, phone or email, the topic, your message and the page you came from.
  • Signing in with Google: your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We never see your Google password.
  • Your profile: the author name, city and "about you" you enter, which are shown with the guides you write, and your mobile number, which only our team sees.
  • Guides you write: the text, screenshots, author name, and the contact details and helper choice you give. Screenshots are re-saved in your browser before upload, which removes hidden data such as the location where a photo was taken. You blur personal details before sending; we check again before anything is published.
  • Analytics: on the live site, Google Analytics counts visits, searches and clicks (for example, which guides are read and which buttons are used) so we know what helps. It uses cookies. We don't send your name, email or phone number to it.

Cookies and browser storage

  • A sign-in cookie, only if you sign in.
  • Your language choice (prakriya_lang), so the site opens in it next time.
  • Google Analytics cookies, on the live site.
  • Browser storage for your votes and the random voting ID described above.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data or show ads.
  • We never ask for Aadhaar numbers, OTPs or passwords. Please don't send them to us.

Who can see it

  • Everyone: published guides, with the author name, city and "about you" from the author's profile.
  • Our team: everything else above, to review guides, reply to messages and improve the site.
  • Companies that run parts of the site for us: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and screenshot storage) and Google (sign-in and analytics). They store or process data for us and may not use it for anything else.
  • If you ask us to do a process for you, we use the details and documents you share only for that job, including on the government portal it needs.

How long we keep it

Published guides stay while they are live. Votes and feedback stay with the guide they are about. Messages, drafts and other details stay until they are no longer needed or you ask us to delete them. When we publish a guide, we keep only the edited, blurred screenshots.

Your choices

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. You can change your profile yourself on the profile page. For anything else, contact us or message us on WhatsApp; we aim to reply within 7 days.

Grievances

To raise a complaint about your data or any content on the site, contact us and choose "Something on the site is wrong". We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days.

Children

Prakriya is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please don't create an account or send us personal details.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update this page and the date at the top.
